Design process

This term we have been learning about the design process.

step 1  Identify/finding the problem..
step 2  Research need or problem. Find out more thing about the problem.
step 3  Develop possible solution. Think of good ideas.
step 4  Select the best possible solution. Use the best solution.
step 5  Construct a prototype or trial . Build a prototype.
step 6  Test and evaluate the solution. Test the prototype.
step 7  Communicate the solution.  Talk about solution.
step 8  Redesign or reflect. Talk about how you can improve it.

I think the design process is very helpful because when we were designing our spaceships it made it easier.

the writing process we are looking at in class

This term we learned about the writing process.

The writing process has five steps. Pre-writing, Drafting, Revising, Editing and Publishing. Pre-writing is when you brainstorm some ideas that your going to write about. Drafting, is when you free write something. Revising is when you look back at your work. Editing is when you find your mistakes and fixing them. Publishing is when you re-write your draft copy but without any mistakes. The writing process is very helpful to use and will also help you write an excellent explanation.

First Queens Park Cross Country

First day down at Queens Park for senior school cross country.  Everyone walked down really well and was ready to go.  Would have to say most people tried hard, some more than others though.  We still need to remember to try and have a steady pace not start, stop, start, stop!

Need to mention two people I saw do really well.

Mickayla and Genesis they both found a steady pass and didn't stop till they got to the end.  Ka pai you showed true determination, and have earned the right to be really proud. (Keep it up!)

Overall lots of positives and a little room to grow!

What a class, what a term!

Thanks Room 5,

You have all worked really hard this term and learnt heaps.  Thanks for becoming determined learners and being open to new things.  Enjoy your break you deserve it and will need it.  Remember to keep learning and look after you parents.

Just to keep you thinking,

In a year, some months have 30 days, while some have 31. Guess, which month has 28 days?

First student from Room 5 to comment with correct answer gets an extra easter egg.

That was too easy so here's another one! Same deal.

What goes up and down, but still remains in the same place?

See you next term.
Mr McKenzie

Homework for week 7

Te Papa's Colossal Squid

In Feburary 2007,a New Zealand fishing boat called the San Aspring went fishing for the Antarctic Tooth Fish.  But they caught something very different from an Antarctic Tooth Fish........ IT WAS A COLOSSAL SQUID! It was still hanging on to a Tooth fish and it was just alive! The crew relised this was an opportunity to learn about the ways of a colossal squid. It took the crew  TWO HOURS to get the squid on board in the boats freezer. When the boat returned to port, they put the squid in to a cool store in Timaru. It takes several hours for a 1.5 kilo chicken to defrost for your dinner. So how long would it take for a 495 -killo frozen colossal squid to defrost??  Any ideas?   FACTS:   The squids eye has a lense that is as big as an orange. The scientists put the squid's tentacles on bubble rap and floating plastic bags to prevent the tentacles from snapping off. WHAT THE SCIENTESTS DISCOVERED: -The squid mesured 4.2 metres in length and it weighed 495 kilos!  - It was a female because it had thousands of eggs in it's ovaries-It was possibly 3-5 years old.-Its last meal was an Antarctic Tooth Fish. Traces of Tooth Fishes eye lenses where in its stomach. At 4 am Monday ,1st of December , the lid is bolted onto the tank and the tank is hosisted onto a truck. The Colossal Squid is on the move!
